The Musician’s Workshop will feature two interest streams:

1. Julie’s Piano Accompaniment style: Bring along your piano/keyboard and get some tips from one of the best Celtic dance accompanists around. Work on a tune to be played with the melody players later in the workshop.

2. Melody players: Focus on the following while learning a tune or two:

- playing for music for contra dance.
- how to tailor the way you play the tune to suit the key moves of the dance.
- what to look for in arranging dynamic tune shifts.
- how fast is too fast?
- the role of rhythm players, the role of melody players and how to share the groove.
- when not to play and how not to play, to give the others a chance to carry the tune alone and let the melody breathe differently.
- how to communicate with the caller to sort the best tunes for a dance.
- as a performance band: ideas on developing a program, choosing songs and tunes, how much and when to talk, humour, sustaining interest.
